According to reputed Daily Mail correspondent Mike Keegan, Manchester United have sold more Women’s jerseys than men’s after the arrival of star women players Christen Press and Tobin Heath.
Both Christen Press and Tobin Heath are two-time world cup winners with the US national team.
Christen Press and Tobin Heath have joined the United women’s team from Utah Royals FC and Portland Thorns respectively.
The arrival of Press and Heath may be a signal by the United board to close the gap to the existing WSL ‘Big Three’ this season and potentially make it into a ‘ Big Four’.
Heath and Press are two of the most famous female players ever to grace the English club. This was further evidenced by their shirts being in more demand that they initially outsold even the likes of Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford.
The Heath and Press jerseys were the club’s most popular of any player jersey, men or women, for the first three days after their respective arrivals last month.
There is a great demand for the WSL in the United Kingdom. The arrival of USNWT stars Alex Morgan, Sam Mewis, Rose Lavelle to England this year have also brought TV rights with them.
There is a deal in place to broadcast the WSL games to the stateside by NBC.
With, the Women’s game gaining widespread recognition and acceptance among the public, it seems as if Manchester United have finally embraced this form of football as well.
