Premier League legend says World Cup winner would be perfect for Man Utd

Manchester United have been strongly linked with the signing of Mesut Ozil in recent weeks.  The Arsenal playmaker is heading towards the final six months of his current deal at the Emirates with no signs of putting pen to paper on a new deal.

Reports vary from us offering him a contract in January to bring him in on a free transfer at the end of the season, whilst it’s possible that our Premier League rivals may cash in on the 2014 World Cup winner for a cut price in January in order to not lose Ozil for nothing.

With Henrikh Mkhitaryan being out of form since a good showing in the opening handful of games this season, and with Jose Mourinho not being a huge admirer of Juan Mata, who he predominately plays on the right wing, it wouldn’t be unrealistic that we make a move for the 29-year-old.

Whilst the German international has been inconsistent during his four-and-a-half seasons there is no doubting the ability he does have.

Jose Mourinho previously got the best out of the Mesut Ozil during their time together at Real Madrid when our current manager brought him to the Santiago Bernabeu stadium following the 2010 World Cup.

You could even argue that Ozil hasn’t had a top striker to work with during his time in North London.  Until this season Arsene Wenger had been insistent on starting with Olivier Giroud.  Perhaps with better quality players around him, such as Romelu Lukaku, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, Mesut Ozil could be a success in the Premier League.

Speaking on the Sky Sports show The Debate, Arsenal and Premier League legend Ian Wright said that Manchester United would be the perfect club for his abilities:

“If Ozil goes somewhere like Manchester United with the players they’ve got on form he will light the place up.

“He’s not the player who when the team’s playing badly – if you’ve got players playing poorly in front of Ozil he’s got nothing to hit and I don’t think Arsene Wenger has got the best out of him consistently up to this point.”

I wouldn’t argue against bringing in Mesut Ozil on a free transfer and trying to cash in on Henrikh Mkhitaryan if the Armenian fails to deliver in the coming months.  Manchester United fans – would you be happy if we signed Mesut Ozil from Arsenal?
