Premier League confirm new date for Man Utd’s trip to Brentford

The Premier League have confirmed that Manchester United will play their postponed game against Brentford on January 19.

The Red Devils were initially scheduled to take on Thomas Frank’s side on the road on December 14, but the match was postponed amid several COVID-19 cases within the squad.

The Brighton & Hove Albion encounter was also called off as a result. The first of those rescheduled games will be played between the Aston Villa and West Ham United fixtures.

Schedule:

Man Utd vs Aston Villa – FA Cup third round (January 10)
Aston Villa vs Man Utd – Premier League (January 15)
Brentford vs Man Utd – Premier League (January 19)
Man Utd vs West Ham – Premier League (January 22)

Our view:

United won three games on the bounce in the Premier League before the untimely Covid outbreak. The restart has been far from ideal.

They started off with a disappointing 1-1 draw at Newcastle United, where the Magpies deserved to win if not for David de Gea’s heroics.

The Burnley game was smooth sailing with a 3-1 triumph, but they were largely second best against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The game was decided by a solitary goal, but the Midlands outfit dominated the opening half with a stunning 15 scoring attempts.

With the recent postponement, it was always anticipated that there would be a fixture pile-up. United have a tricky period before the winter break.

United are set to play three games in the space of just eight days. Those fixtures could be pivotal to the club’s top-four ambitions this season.

Before facing Villa away, they are set to host them in the FA Cup third round tie on Monday. Villa won 1-0 in the league at Old Trafford earlier this term.
