Predicted Man Utd line-up vs Southampton, Cristiano Ronaldo starts

Manchester United will be aiming to return to winning ways when they entertain Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Devils have been disappointing since the winter break. They suffered a shock defeat to Middlesbrough in the FA Cup fourth round, which was followed by a frustrating 1-1 league draw at Burnley.

They are languishing in fifth in the league standings and need to pick up maximum points against the Saints on Saturday to avoid losing further ground in the race for the Champions League places.

The club are currently one point behind fourth-placed West Ham United with a game in hand. However, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are just three points behind them, having played two games less.

Southampton won’t be an easy game. They are coming off a stunning 3-2 away win at Tottenham. The south coast outfit also took a point from the reverse meeting at St Mary’s in August.

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Predicted Line-up:

David de Gea has played every minute of the club’s Premier League campaign and has hardly put a foot wrong.

The Spaniard has been exceptional between the sticks and came up with a vital save in midweek to deny a winning goal for Burnley. He is expected to start.

In defence, there could be a solitary change, judging by the performance at Turf Moor. Harry Maguire had a dismal outing where he was at fault at both ends.

Interim boss Ralf Rangnick has not shied away from making shrewd changes. Victor Lindelof could replace the club captain.

No changes are likely in midfield. Paul Pogba came up with an impressive showing on his league return after three months.

The Frenchman bagged the opening goal with a stellar strike from the edge of the box.

On another day, Scott McTominay could be swapped with Fred, but the latter is sidelined due to coronavirus.

It would be a gamble to play Nemanja Matic against a high-pressing side with his limited mobility.

Further forward, We anticipate a couple of changes. Jadon Sancho was lively for the second game running.

He impressed with his dribbling from the left wing but could not find any end product.

Despite this, he should keep his place alongside Bruno Fernandes in attack. There could be a change on the right wing with Anthony Elanga replacing Marcus Rashford.

Rashford had few shots at Nick Pope, but most were straightforward for the Clarets keeper.

Cristiano Ronaldo was axed from the starting line-up in midweek, but his replacement Edinson Cavani barely made an impact.

The Portuguese missed a wonderful headed chance off the bench and will be hoping that he can end his goalless run since the turn of the year.
