Manchester United travel to St James’ Park for today’s Premier League clash against Newcastle United.
The Red Devils are currently third in the league standings with 50 points and have the opportunity to strengthen their top-four bid with a victory over the Magpies.
Ahead of the game, the club have received a boost with Marcus Rashford travelling with the squad. The England star has recovered from a knock sustained against Fulham.
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Predicted Line-up:
David de Gea has been ever-present in the Premier League this campaign. The Spaniard has 11 clean sheets to his name and will be eyeing another to go level with Nick Pope and Aaron Ramsdale, who are leading the Golden Glove race.
In defence, a solitary change is expected. Raphael Varane is fit after missing a couple of games before the international break with a knock. The Frenchman should replace Harry Maguire in central defence and therefore partner Lisandro Martinez.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been manager Erik ten Hag’s preferred choice at right-back ahead of Diogo Dalot in recent months. The 25-year-old has earned his spot with fantastic displays and should continue to get the nod over the Portuguese. Luke Shaw is expected to feature at left-back.
In midfield, Ten Hag may go with Scott McTominay and Fred. Fred was surprisingly dropped by Brazil for recent friendlies and this should boost his chances of starting. McTominay, on the other hand, was in stellar form for Scotland with three goals including a brace versus Spain.
Marcel Sabitzer was also impressive with three goal contributions for Austria against Azerbaijan but he was an unused substitute versus Estonia due to a minor knee injury. In our opinion, the midfielder could be handled with caution and may start on the bench this afternoon.
Further forward, Ten Hag should go with his best possible choices. Antony should come in for Jadon Sancho on the right wing. Bruno Fernandes will continue in the number 10 role with Rashford featuring on the left flank. He has five goals in 10 outings against the Magpies.
Ten Hag confirmed on Friday that Anthony Martial could make the matchday squad after his prolonged absence with a hip injury. However, he is unlikely to start until he is fully match fit. Wout Weghorst looks set to start his 19th straight game since his loan switch from Burnley.
