Predicted Man Utd line-up vs Liverpool, Kambwala starts in defence

Manchester United will be aiming to return to winning ways when they host arch-rivals Liverpool in the Premier League this afternoon.

The Red Devils suffered a shock defeat at the hands of Chelsea in midweek. They were on course for a 3-2 victory at Stamford Bridge, but the Blues stunned them with two late goals in stoppage time.

Manager Erik ten Hag will want a strong response after the setback. The Dutchman will be missing four key centre-backs, but will still expect his players to turn up for the derby at Old Trafford.

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Predicted Line-up:

Andre Onana has played every minute in goal in the current Premier League campaign. He is expected to continue between the sticks against Jurgen Klopp’s side. The Cameroonian star will be eyeing his ninth clean sheet of the league season.

In front of him, there will be an enforced change with Raphael Varane picking up an injury against Chelsea. Jonny Evans, who replaced him off the bench, is also likely to miss out after suffering a setback of his own during the second half.

Aside from the duo, Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof are also sidelined. This will pave the way for teenager Willy Kambwala to start alongside Harry Maguire in central defence.

Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka should be nailed-on starters in the full-back roles. Wan-Bissaka could start on the left just like in the FA Cup quarter-final win over Liverpool.

In midfield, we won’t be surprised if there is another enforced change. Casemiro only recently returned from a knee injury. Ten Hag said that he had to take him off at Stamford Bridge.

The Brazilian ace may have picked up a knock in the game. We fancy Kobbie Mainoo to start from the number six role with Mason Mount accompanying him as the central midfielder.

Further forward, no changes are expected. Bruno Fernandes is set to continue from his customary number 10 position with Antony and Alejandro Garnacho on the right and left wing respectively.

Garnacho scored two goals and deserved to be the man of the match at Chelsea. Antony played his best game of the season, registering his first assist of the league campaign.

Up front, Rasmus Hojlund is expected to start once more. There is the temptation to play Marcus Rashford but on current form, the Dane should be an undisputed starter.
