Manchester United travel to Anfield for today’s Premier League clash against arch-rivals Liverpool.
The Red Devils are currently 14 points behind leaders Arsenal with two games in hand and they will be aiming to reduce the gap with a win this evening.
United beat Jurgen Klopp’s side by a 2-1 scoreline at Old Trafford. The club will now be eyeing their first league double over them since the 2015/16 season.
The Red Devils should fancy their first victory at Anfield since January 2016.
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Predicted Line-up:
David de Gea has played every minute of the top-flight campaign. The Spaniard has pulled off several world-class saves over the past month and could have another busy game between the sticks. He is currently two clean sheets behind Newcastle United’s Nick Pope in the Golden Glove race.
In front of him, we could see a familiar backline. Diogo Dalot is obviously manager Erik ten Hag’s preferred right-back over Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The Portuguese has started the last two games in all competitions and will most likely get the nod again.
At the heart of the defence, Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez look set to be reinstated to the XI after substitute appearances in the FA Cup fifth round win over West Ham United. With Luke Shaw fit after a minor injury, he should replace Tyrell Malacia at left-back.
Casemiro was handed a breather from the starting XI in midweek but it took only 45 minutes for Ten Hag to bring him on for Scott McTominay. The Brazilian has been exceptional for United in the number six role this term with his defensive and offensive involvements.
He is expected to start for the Red Devils and the same can be said for Fred, who has won over the fans with his consistent displays lately. Fred started eight straight games last month, making several key goal contributions. He should partner his compatriot in the centre of the park.
McTominay and Sabitzer will drop to the bench. In attack, there could be a solitary change with Antony being replaced by Marcus Rashford. Alejandro Garnacho produced a fantastic display in midweek where he was a constant threat on the left wing before his late winning strike.
The youngster deserves to keep his place in the starting line-up and this could see a tactical change from Ten Hag. Rashford, who has six goals against today’s opposition, should lead the line with his exceptional scoring form throughout the ongoing campaign.
Wout Weghorst should operate from the number 10 or second striker role. The Dutchman has grown in confidence with every performance. In the past two outings, he has been pretty impressive with his link-up play in the final third and Ten Hag obviously likes him.
Bruno Fernandes has been a regular goal contributor since the World Cup. The Portuguese has been effective wherever he has played and could feature on the right wing at Anfield. We could see him drifting into his preferred number 10 position when the opportunity arises.
