Manchester United entertain Copenhagen in tonight’s Champions League group stage clash at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils secured a second-straight victory over the weekend. They picked up a 2-1 win over Sheffield United in the Premier League as Diogo Dalot scored a sublime winner.
Manager Erik ten Hag will want the club to carry the momentum into tonight’s game which is a must-win for the club, having lost their opening two group matches against Bayern and Galatasaray.
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Predicted Line-up:
Andre Onana had a good outing against the Blades on the road. He was more assured with his distribution and shot-stopping. Hopefully, we will see more of the same against the Danish champions later today.
In defence, we anticipate a couple of changes from the weekend triumph. Raphael Varane made his injury comeback off the bench on Saturday. The Frenchman should now make the starting line-up. He is likely to accompany Harry Maguire in the heart of the defence. The ex-captain produced his best performance of the season against his former club.
Diogo Dalot is a nailed-on starter from the right-back position. The Portuguese had a mixed performance to start with at Bramall Lane but made the difference with his stellar goal to win the game. At left-back, Victor Lindelof is likely to make way for Sergio Reguilon. The Spaniard was ill at the weekend but has returned to training and should start.
In midfield, United won’t have the services of Casemiro, who was spotted in training yesterday. The Brazilian was handed a rest against Sheffield after twisting his ankle on international duty. He won’t be involved today either after his sending off against Galatasaray.
Sofyan Amrabat should start in the number six role in his absence. Scott McTominay has been in fine scoring form with three goals in under two games, but Ten Hag could decide to go with the more creative Christian Eriksen tonight. The manager praised him as a ‘great player‘ yesterday.
Further forward, we predict one change from the weekend with Antony making way for Mason Mount’s re-entry into the starting XI. The former produced another lacklustre attacking display. Mount could start as the advanced playmaker which could see Bruno Fernandes move to the right-wing.
Marcus Rashford is a guaranteed starter on the left-wing. The same is the case with Rasmus Hojlund up front. Hojlund has yet to open his scoring account in the Premier League, but he has been a revelation in the Champions League with three goals. He bagged a brace in the Galatasaray loss.
