Manchester United have the opportunity to end the year with a victory when they face Burnley on the road in the Premier League. The Red Devils recently registered a comfortable 4-1 win over Newcastle United at Old Trafford but it remains to be seen whether they can replicate a similar performance on the road, where they have struggled this season with just two wins from nine outings.
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Predicted Lineup:
David de Gea is the undisputed pick for the goalkeeping duties in the Premier League and he is expected to feature between the sticks. In the defence, no changes are likely for the game and Solskjaer should stick with the same combination from the Magpies’ triumph despite the congested festive schedule. Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who bagged his first-ever assist for United on Boxing Day, should slot into the right-back spot. Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire will make up the heart of the defence with Luke Shaw occupying the left-back position.
In the centre of the park, United are unlikely to rely on the services of Scott McTominay, who sustained a knee ligament injury against the Magpies. In this case, Nemanja Matic is likely to be handed with his first league appearance in three months. The Serbian should be accompanied by Fred, who has been a constant figure in midfield over the past few months.
Elsewhere, Paul Pogba could be handed with his first Premier League start since September after a coming of lively performances off the bench. Solskjaer has regularly talked up the versatility of the Frenchman and the 26-year-old could feature in the number 10 position where he can take the game to the opposition with his intrinsic passing and good shooting accuracy.
Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood are likely to maintain their spots on the left and right side of the attack, meaning that Daniel James and Jesse Lingard will have to adjust to roles off the bench. Anthony Martial will certainly lead the line after ending a two-match barren run in the Premier League with a sublime brace against the Magpies.
