Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made it six wins out of six as Manchester United came away from Wembley Stadium with a 1-0 win at Tottenham Hotspur this afternoon.
Marcus Rashford’s fine finish in the closing moments of the first half following an excellent chipped pass from Paul Pogba proved to be enough as David de Gea pulled off save after save in the second half.
This run puts us level on points with Arsenal but still six behind Chelsea who hold the final Champions League place.
Here are how our players fared:
David de Gea 10 – Good saves to deny Harry Kane and Dele Alli from close range in the opening five minutes of the second half. Denied Dele Alli one-on-one midway through the second half and a reaction save at his near post to deny Toby Alderweireld five minutes later. Incredible performance from David de Gea in order to keep a clean sheet today.
Ashley Young 8 – Kept the in-form Heung-min Son quiet for nearly all of the game. Tottenham had a lot of good chances but none came from down Ashley Young’s side.
Phil Jones 5 – Caught out by runs off the ball numerous times today that led to several good chances for the home side.
Victor Lindelof 7 – Tottenham created a lot of good chances against us today but Victor Lindelof did an adequate job on Harry Kane.
Luke Shaw 5 – Spurs had a lot of success down our left-hand side which included Dele Alli getting in one-on-one and chances created for Harry Kane and co.
Nemanja Matic 7 – Excellent in the first half, winning the ball back a number of times as we were comfortable defensively. However, Nemanja Matic and co were overrun in the second half.
Ander Herrera 7 – Harshly booked when he won the ball on the edge of our own area. Won the ball back a number of times and was fairly decent with it when we were on top in the first half.
Paul Pogba 9 – Another excellent performance under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Paul Pogba produced a peach of a chipped pass to provide the assist for Rashford’s goal. Forced three good saves out of Hugo Lloris in the opening 20 minutes of the second half.
Jesse Lingard 6 – Some nice passes in midfield but nothing major in possession in the final third. Jesse Lingard did play a nice through ball to Anthony Martial that lead to a good Paul Pogba chance on the hour. Worked hard off the ball.
Marcus Rashford 7 – Clinical finish to give us the lead on the stroke of half-time. Kept the Tottenham defence honest with his runs off the ball up front. Played the final 20 minutes out on the left after Romelu Lukaku’s introduction but Spurs dominated the possession during this period.
Anthony Martial 7 – Got in behind Kieran Trippier a couple of times to create chances for teammates but saw limited sights on goal himself. Anthony Martial was good down the left again today as a counter-attack threat. Replaced in the final 20 minutes.
Substitutes
Romelu Lukaku (18 mins) N/A – Interesting substitution as Tottenham were in control of the ball during the second half. Whether Romelu Lukaku was brought on to hold the ball up and bring teammates into play to help us see a decent share of the ball in the final 20 minutes, it didn’t work. Barely touched the ball.
Diogo Dalot (8 mins) N/A – Brought on immediately after Fernando Llorente was introduced by Spurs.
Scott McTominay (1 min) N/A – Came on in stoppage time to help sure up the defence and run down the clock.
