Player Ratings: Man Utd 4-0 Chelsea

Manchester United thumped Chelsea 4-0 at Old Trafford this afternoon to end the opening weekend of the 2019-20 Premier League season.

Marcus Rashford scored a penalty against the run of play before we got on top of Chelsea.

Goals on the counter attack from Anthony Martial, Rashford and Daniel James saw the Red Devils start the season in style. David de Gea was well protected as Harry Maguire had an excellent debut.

Here are how our players fared:

David de Gea 8 – Forced into a couple of smart saves from Pedro, Emerson and Mason Mount. A comfortable day for David de Gea.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka 8 – Chelsea found some space down our right as Aaron Wan-Bissaka was tested on his Manchester United debut. Going forward, the summer signing looked hesitant to put the ball into the box when he received it out wide. Camera did pick him up limping in stoppage time.

Victor Lindelof 8 – Chelsea were reduced to long-range shots as Tammy Abraham was kept quiet as Chelsea’s lone striker. Picked up a needless yellow card for kicking the ball away. This has the making of a superb centre-back partnership.

Harry Maguire 10 – Superb debut from the £80 million man. Strong in defence and in the air. Tammy Abraham disappeared after striking the post in the opening minutes. Harry Maguire read the game superbly.

Luke Shaw 8 – Chelsea offered little threat down this side.

Scott McTominay 7 – We looked comfortable defensively when sitting back in the second half as Chelsea failed to create anything of note. Scott McTominay was sloppy in possession at times in the first half.

Andreas Pereira 6 – Didn’t get on the ball too much but provided the cross for the second goal to kill the game off in the second half.

Paul Pogba 8 – Superb assist for our third goal. Energetic display from Paul Pogba who was better than Chelsea’s midfield.

Jesse Lingard 6 – Didn’t see much of the ball but looked after it when he did. Spent some time in the middle of the park too.

Marcus Rashford 9 – Unstoppable penalty and a composed 20-yard finished to add the icing on the cake in terms of the scoreline. Moved out wide to help out with the defending at 1-0.

Anthony Martial 8 – Excellent movement in front of Cesar Azpilicueta to bundle in our second. Anthony Martial was lively and will be happy to get on the scoresheet.

Substitutes

Daniel James (18 mins) N/A – His effort was going straight at Kepa before the deflection but Daniel James won’t care as he scored on his Manchester United debut.

Juan Mata (5 mins) N/A – Will have enjoyed coming onto the pitch at 4-0 against his former club.

Mason Greenwood (5 mins) N/A – A late introduction for the 17-year-old to gain more Premier League experience.
