Player Ratings: Man Utd 3-1 Huddersfield

Ole Gunnar Solksjaer made it two comfortable wins from two since replacing Jose Mourinho as temporary Manchester United manager with a 3-1 win over Huddersfield Town at Old Trafford.

Nemanja Matic scored the only goal of the first half before Paul Pogba added a brace the spell of quarter-of-an-hour in the second half.

The Premier League’s bottom side scored a consolation goal in the 88th minute.

Here are how our players fared:

David de Gea 6 – Only tested once with a fine save to deny Laurent Depoitre’s effort from a corner. David de Gea had no chance with Mathias Jorgenson’s late consolation from close range.

Diogo Dalot 6 – Still no clean sheets in four Premier League starts for Diogo Dalot. Attacked at will from right-back and showed good energy. Missed a couple of chances to get among the goalscorers.

Phil Jones 7 – Showed good leadership in defence and made a number of headers and clearances to keep the visitors at bay.

Victor Lindelof 7 – Calm in possession and set up our opener.

Luke Shaw 8 – Another good outing from left-back which saw Luke Shaw bombing forward down the wing several times.

Nemanja Matic 8 – An excellent performance who looked like the player when he first arrived at Manchester United. Nemanja Matic scored the opening goal and wasn’t tested too often defensively.

Fred 6 – Not the hardest worker off the ball today but fine in possession. Replaced shortly after the break.

Paul Pogba 9 – An important brace in the second half to ensure another three points today. Paul Pogba was the star on the pitch for us with some excellent passing as the French star dictated the play in the final third. Two fine finishes into the bottom corner.

Jesse Lingard 6 – Typical energetic start from Jesse Lingard who was playing down the left wing for the first time. Died out as the game went on but did set up a goal.

Marcus Rashford 7 – Another excellent performance under Solskjaer from Marcus Rashford as the striker in Romelu Lukaku’s absence. The youngster was energetic in leading the line, looking to get in behind the Huddersfield defence and linked up well with the support.

Juan Mata 7 – Played a key goal in Paul Pogba’s first goal that put the game to bed. Some excellent passes in the final third again today from Juan Mata.

Ashley Young (38 mins) 6 – Replaced Diogo Dalot right-back, getting forward but without creating any chances.

Ander Herrera (37 mins) 6 – Didn’t see as much of the ball as we were expecting after entering the field early in the second half but Ander Herrera did have time to set up one of Pogba’s goals.

Angel Gomes (11 mins) N/A – A late run out for the youngster who brought a save out of Jonas Lossl with one of his only touches of the ball in the final 10 minutes.
