Manchester United have moved to within two points of the Champions League places with a comfortable 3-0 win over Sheffield United at Old Trafford this evening.
Anthony Martial helped himself to his first hat-trick for the club in a game we dominated. This is the first time a Manchester United player has scored a Premier League hat-trick since Sir Alex Ferguson retired.
The game saw Paul Pogba make his first Premier League start since September and start alongside Bruno Fernandes for the first time.
Here are our player ratings:
David de Gea 6 – The goalkeeper was just a spectator this evening.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka 8 – Offered a lot of support to the attack from right-back, which included an excellent assist for the second goal. Enda Stevens offered little going forward the visitors down the wing.
Victor Lindelof 8 – Comfortable game for our defence as neither Lys Mousset nor David McGoldrick posed a threat, whilst Oli McBurnie’s effort on target was tame and from 25 yards.
Harry Maguire 8 – Made a key interception in the opening minutes, had a goal disallowed for a push in the back, otherwise a comfortable and fairly uneventful outing.
Luke Shaw 8 – Saw a lot of the ball down the left but was fairly conservative with it. Created a good chance for Odion Ighalo late on.
Nemanja Matic 8 – Moved the ball forward well to help start attacks and didn’t have that much work to do defensively.
Paul Pogba 8 – Played a deeper role than he did versus Tottenham Hotspur but as every bit influential. Paul Pogba created a number of chances, won his aerial duels as we dominated the game from start to finish.
Bruno Fernandes 8 – Perhaps didn’t create as much as expected and only tested Simon Moore once himself. One of five players taken off in the final 10 minutes ahead of the weekend’s FA Cup quarter-final tie.
Mason Greenwood 7 – Worked hard but went quieter as the game went on. Looked keen to get on the scoresheet but only tested the Sheffield United goalkeeper once from his five efforts on goal.
Anthony Martial 10 – Hat-trick hero playing the striker’s role this evening. Anthony Martial produced three good finishes to help us to three points.
Marcus Rashford 9 – Fine assists for Martial’s first and third goals. Started on the left but often cut inside. Didn’t look like scoring himself but played a key role in attack.
Substitutes
Andreas Pereira (12 mins) N/A – Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made all five of his substitutions in one go. Andreas Pereira had a couple of touches but nothing memorable.
Odion Ighalo (12 mins) N/A – The striker looked keen to get on the scoresheet and perhaps would have been successful but for a poor first touch that denied Odion Ighalo a one-on-one.
Juan Mata (12 mins) N/A – Saw more of the ball than any of the substitutes but failed to create a chance in the final minutes.
Scott McTominay (12 mins) N/A – Ole wanted to finish with a similar formation to what we started with.
Daniel James (12 mins) N/A – Nothing of note from the Welsh forward.
