Manchester United came from 0-2 down to draw 2-2 against Burnley at Old Trafford this evening as we dropped points under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for the first time.
Ashley Barnes opened the scoring for the visitors five minutes into the second half before Chris Wood doubled Burnley’s lead in the final 10 minutes.
However, Paul Pogba converted a penalty four minutes from time after Jeff Hendrick hauled Jesse Lingard down inside the penalty area.
Victor Lindelof scrambled home an equaliser in the first minute of stoppage time but we couldn’t find a winner after.
Here are how our players fared:
David de Gea 5 – Conceded two goals from Burnley’s only two decent efforts on target but the Spaniard didn’t have much chance with either.
Ashley Young 5 – Slow at bringing the ball forward and largely at fault for the second goal we conceded.
Phil Jones 7 – Fairly impressive performance which included denying Burnley the opener in the first half.
Victor Lindelof 7 – Decent defensive performance and rescued a point for us late on. Victor Lindelof brought the ball into midfield to help start attacks as we dominated possession.
Luke Shaw 5 – Offered good width down the left but failed to produce anything worthwhile in the final third.
Nemanja Matic 5 – A sluggish performance from the Serbian who didn’t seem very comfortable under Burnley’s high press.
Andreas Pereira 5 – Poor performance from the Brazilian who was a surprise starter this evening. Andreas Pereira sloppily conceded possession that led to Burnley’s opener against the run of play early in the second half.
Paul Pogba 6 – Some decent through balls down the flanks and a well-executed penalty but otherwise we were expecting more from Paul Pogba heading into the game.
Juan Mata 5 – A couple of nice touches and passes but nothing significant in the final third as Juan Mata failed to open up the compact Burnley defence.
Romelu Lukaku 4 – Offered no threat on the Burnley goal and was replaced midway through the second half. Set up a good opportunity for Marcus Rashford in the first half.
Marcus Rashford 5 – Missed an excellent opportunity in the first half and was quiet thereafter.
Substitutes
Jesse Lingard (29 mins) N/A – Offered some thrust down the weekend and won the penalty from which we scored our first goal.
Alexis Sanchez (25 mins) N/A – Looked keen to make something happen but it didn’t work out for Alexis Sanchez who conceded possession often and only forced one save out of Tom Heaton.
