Manchester United finished the 2017-18 Premier League season with a 1-0 win over Watford at Old Trafford in Michael Carrick’s final game this afternoon.
Marcus Rashford scored the game’s only goal in the first half in an end of season style game in which Jose Mourinho had made nine changes from Thursday’s 0-0 at West Ham United with next weekend’s FA Cup final in mind.
Here are how our players fared:
Sergio Romero 7 – The busier of the two goalkeepers but Sergio Romero’s three saves means we have kept 19 clean sheets in 38 Premier League games this season and one in one for the Argentine. Richarlison’s close range header was Watford’s only effort of note.
Matteo Darmian 7 – Adequate performance from the full-back, though Daryl Janmaat caused Matteo Darmian the odd problem in what may well be the Italian’s final game.
Eric Bailly 8 – Solid defensive performance on his return to the starting lineup though let Richarlison go free for a close range header just before half-time. Otherwise the defence protected Sergio Romero very well.
Marcos Rojo 6 – Looked a bit rusty but Watford didn’t create much to worry us.
Ashley Young 7 – Comfortable game defensively for the left-back but once again Ashley Young didn’t offer much going forward.
Daley Blind 7 – Very tidy performance from Daley Blind in what could be his final appearance for Manchester United. The Netherlands international completed nearly all of his passes. Won the ball back for us a fair few times too.
Michael Carrick 7 – Comfortable in possession and looked after the ball. Excellent pass in the build up to Marcus Rashford’s winner in what was Michael Carrick’s final game of his career.
Scott McTominay 5 – Really sloppy in possession to start and didn’t offer a great deal of note afterwards. Picked up a yellow card.
Juan Mata 7 – Another elegant performance from the Spanish playmaker who controlled Michael Carrick’s ball well to square to Rashford for the winner.
Marcus Rashford 7 – Whilst the teenager did score the only goal of the game with our only shot on target and linked up well with the attack, Marcus Rashford wasn’t a threat to Gomes again despite playing the striker’s role today.
Alexis Sanchez 5 – Hardworking effort as per usual from the Chilean but sloppy in possession with several careless passes and didn’t get a single shot on target on the Watford goal.
Substitutes
Luke Shaw (31 mins) 6 – A half hour run out for the left-back which was enough time to pick up a yellow card and nothing else of note.
Ander Herrera (14 mins) N/A – Came on to help see out the clean sheet and win but didn’t get on the ball very much at all.
Paul Pogba (7 mins) N/A – Came on to allow Michael Carrick a final round of applause. Paul Pogba had three touches during his time on the pitch.
