Player Ratings: Leicester 0-2 Man Utd

Bruno Fernandes and Jesse Lingard scored as Manchester United beat Leicester City 2-0 this afternoon to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

The Portuguese superstar converted a penalty won by Anthony Martial midway through the second half, whilst Lingard benefited from a Kasper Schmeichel howler in the eighth minute of stoppage time.

Leicester had a couple of half chances of their own at 0-0 but David de Gea ended up overtaking Peter Schmeichel in Premier League clean sheets at the end of the game.

Jonny Evans was sent off in stoppage time for a nasty tackle on Scott McTominay.

Here are our player ratings:

David de Gea 6 – Comfortable afternoon for our goalkeeper. Harvey Barnes fired a close range effort straight at him and Jamie Vardy hit the outside of the post.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka 8 – Solid game from the right-back. Excellent tackle on the edge of his own area in the first half to deny Youri Tielemans a good chance. Aaron Wan-Bissaka won the ball back time and time again today.

Victor Lindelof 7 – We didn’t look the most secure in the middle at times today but David de Gea was rarely tested this afternoon.

Harry Maguire 6 – Picked up an early yellow card for a foul from behind on the halfway line. Looked sloppy in the opening 20 minutes. Harry Maguire picked up as the game went on but has ended the season poorly.

Brandon Williams 8 – Made a couple of important blocks inside his own area. Brought the ball forward down the left wing and won the ball back a few times in a good performance at left-back. Picked up a yellow card in stoppage time.

Nemanja Matic 8 – Denied Marc Albrighton a one-on-one following an error from Maguire. Nemanja Matic was a rock in front of the back four today, winning numerous tackles and maintaining possession.

Paul Pogba 7 – Some nice touches in an energetic performance from Paul Pogba, though nothing significant in the final third.

Mason Greenwood 6 – Made a good run into space to get onto Marcus Rashford’s lobbed pass from the halfway line but his header went over with what was the first chance of the game. Saw a fair bit of the ball down the right but didn’t do too much with it.

Bruno Fernandes 7 – Not the most influential performance from Bruno Fernandes today but kept his cool to convert the all important penalty to send us into the Champions League.

Marcus Rashford 7 – Played very deep by his standards but some nice passes in the first half from there. Forced one save out of Kasper Schmeichel.

Anthony Martial 7 – Looked sharp today and won the penalty midway through the second half. His efforts on goal were blocked.
