Manchester United ran out clear and comfortable 3-0 winners away to Brighton & Hove Albion on Tuesday night to make it three wins in a week.
Mason Greenwood got the scoring underway after quarter-of-an-hour with a fine effort to beat Mat Ryan at his near post.
Bruno Fernandes doubled the visitors lead on half hour before the Portuguese star wrapped up a smooth counter-attack to make it 3-0 five minutes after the break.
We are now two points behind Chelsea in fourth and three points behind Leicester City in third, but with the aforementioned duo each having a game in hand.
Here are our player ratings:
David de Gea 7 – One excellent save but otherwise the goalkeeper was very well protected once again.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka 8 – Bombed up and down the wing and registered an assist to go with a clean sheet. A very strong showing from Aaron Wan-Bissaka once again.
Victor Lindelf 8 – Allowed Leandro Trossard to cut inside and get a shot in in the final 20 minutes but otherwise a solid game from the Swede.
Harry Maguire 8 – Brighton’s strikers didn’t cause any problems in the first half and only had the odd shot on target in the second half when we were three up and sitting off them a bit.
Luke Shaw 7 – A good hour at left-back but did pick up another yellow card before finally getting a breather. Luke Shaw saw a lot of the ball down the left flank but was more involved in the build up rather than putting many crosses into the box.
Paul Pogba 8 – Another good showing from Paul Pogba in the middle of the park before Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was able to give his stars a rest just after the hour mark. The midfielder recorded an assist but surprisingly only had one effort on goal himself.
Nemanja Matic 9 – Superb ball in the build up to the third goal. Nemanja Matic put in another strong showing in the middle of the park, breaking up Brighton possession, bringing the ball forward to start up attacks and looking at the ball well.
Mason Greenwood 9 – A fine finish to open the scoring an a nice assist for the third, Mason Greenwood put in his best Premier League performance for Manchester United down the right wing this evening.
Bruno Fernandes 10 – Is there anything this guy can’t do? Bruno Fernandes looked tired on Saturday but not tonight as he registered a brace and had time to strike the frame of the goal too. The Portuguese playmaker only played an hour too but that was sufficient time to put the game to bed.
Marcus Rashford 6 – Appears to be lacking confidence or something as Marcus Rashford wasn’t at the races down the left wing once again today. Created nothing and didn’t test Mat Ryan himself as his touch was poor at times.
Anthony Martial 6 – Surprisingly quiet performance from Anthony Martial tonight as last week’s hat-trick hero barely got a touch all game before being replaced in the final 15 minutes.
Substitutes
Andreas Pereira (28 mins) 5 – Didn’t offer anything after coming on and that’s when Brighton started seeing more of the ball and chances. Our midfield disappeared for a while midway through the second half.
Brandon Williams (28 mins) 6 – Created a chance and fired an effort wide himself in a short outing.
Scott McTominay (28 mins) 6 – Seemed to be a whole in our midfield immediately after coming on but we saw the clean sheet and comfortable victory out in the end.
Odion Ighalo (14 mins) N/A – Barely able to get a touch of the ball after replacing Anthony Martial.
Daniel James (14 mins) N/A – Looked keen to get on the scoresheet during a couple of good moves. Daniel James showed more in his 14 minute run out tonight than he did in his start versus Tottenham Hotspur!
