The 2018 World Cup kicked off today with hosts Russia thrashing Saudi Arabia 5-0 at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.
Manchester United target Aleksandr Golovin had an excellent game in centre midfield for the European nation by setting up two goals, being heavily involved in another and scoring the fifth with a fine free kick. Substitute Denis Cheryshev scored a goal late in each half as Saudi Arabia never looked like getting in the match.
Moments before kickoff this afternoon the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, gave an introductory speech to the world for the football tournament.
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho was also in attendance in the Russian capital this afternoon, potentially keeping track of Alexandr Golovin.
The boss also took his time to get a photo with the President of Russia. As published above, Jose is posing with Vladimir Putin.
So far this summer we have signed central midfielder Fred and young full-back Diogo Dalot. Hopefully Jose Mourinho’s attendance in Russia for the World Cup will lead to further exciting signings.
