Mason Greenwood leaves Man United for Marseille

Manchester United have confirmed the permanent departure of forward Mason Greenwood to Olympique de Marseille.

According to The Athletic, Man United will receive a £23.3 million fixed sum with £3.4m in add-ons.

The Red Devils have also included a sizeable sell-on clause that will guarantee them a large share of any future sale.

He rose through the ranks and shone at the highest level. He made 129 appearances for United, netting 35 goals and registering 12 assists.

The 22-year-old was arrested over sexual assault charges in January 2022, but they were dropped in February 2023.

The Premier League club faced backlash for trying to reintegrate him into the squad.

They opted to send him on loan to Getafe last season, where he returned to form by bagging ten goals and six assists.

His impressive season helped him earn the Getafe Player of the Season award.

He returned to Carrington for a transfer meeting with United’s new football hierarchy. A move to Marseille will help the youngster revive his career.

United have been working to finalise the deal since the start of the summer and have secured a decent transfer fee in return.

The sell-on clause will ensure that the club can benefit financially in the future.
