Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand believes the Red Devils should make the move to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur during the next transfer window.
Kane has been a superb performer for club and country over the past five-and-a-half years and he has contributed 181 goals from 287 appearances for Spurs in all competitions.
Despite his goalscoring exploits, the 26-year-old has failed to win any silverware with the north London side and he has recently refused to rule out a possible departure from the club.
Amidst this, Ferdinand feels Kane could pursue a fresh challenge at the end of the ongoing season and has no doubts that United will be in the running to secure the striker’s signature.
“I think that statement means Harry is off, he wants to win trophies and that will alert clubs. I know Man United will be in for him because that type of player is perfect for them. He will go for massive dough, at least £130m in today’s market,” he told on Instagram Live.
United have lacked the presence of a 20-goal Premier League striker since the 2012/13 campaign where Robin van Persie played a huge role in the title success in Sir Alex Ferguson’s final season in-charge.
Anthony Martial has been in a good run of form with 11 goals scored as the main striker this term but a player of Kane’s calibre would definitely enhance United’s chances of competing for the English crown once again.
However, the transfer fee could prove a major stumbling block, particularly if United are also looking at the prospect of signing Jadon Sancho, who could cost nearly £100m from Borussia Dortmund.
Elsewhere, there is the difficulty of dealing with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, who has been reluctant to do any transfer business with United since Dimitar Berbatov’s move to Old Trafford back in 2008.
