Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim could urge the hierarchy to sign Tottenham Hotspur defender Pedro Porro, according to AS (page 10).
The Portuguese tactician has recently taken charge as the new head coach of United, but he may have to wait until next summer for a spending spree.
This has not stopped transfer speculation and AS claim that United could make an attempt to land Porro from Spurs under Amorim’s recommendation.
Porro had a hugely successful spell at Sporting CP under Amorim. The player’s entourage believe the latter’s arrival at Old Trafford could lead to a reunion.
Spurs purchased Porro from Sporting CP for £40 million and they are unlikely to entertain less than £58m to consider his departure from north London.
Real Madrid have also been credited with an interest, but they have no plans of meeting the reported valuation set by Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy.
United unlikely to sign Porro from Spurs
The 25-year-old was an undisputed starter from right wing-back at Sporting CP under Amorim.
He made several goal contributions and his progress secured him a move to England with Spurs.
Porro has played as a right-back for Spurs, but he has been equally effective with 20 goal involvements from 67 appearances across all competitions.
He has also impressed when it comes to winning tackles, duels as well as making ball recoveries.
The Spaniard would be an ideal fit for Amorim at right wing-back, but we simply don’t see a deal happening due to Levy’s strong transfer stance.
Levy has not done any business with United since Dimitar Berbatov forced through an exit in 2008.
Former United manager Erik ten Hag was determined to land Harry Kane last year, but Levy preferred to sanction his sale abroad after Bayern Munich’s offer.
It is quite clear that Levy does not want to do deals with United anymore. Porro’s prospects of moving to Old Trafford are very unlikely in our point of view.
