Paul Pogba wants to be successful at Manchester United, says agent Mino Raiola

Paul Pogba’s been the centre of a lot of speculation in recent months, having not played for nearly two months.

After much drama in the summer which saw him eventually decide to stay with Manchester United, Pogba’s return from injury is being constantly delayed. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer recently hinted he picked up an “illness”, being the latest setback to his comeback.

But as some perceived this as a factor to try and postpone the eventual departure in January, the Frenchman’s agent Mino Raiola has swung back at those reports by stating that his client is happy at United.

In an exclusive interview with the Telegraph, he spoke about Pogba’s situation at the Red Devils and said.

“I think that Paul really went home. Paul could have gone elsewhere. But he really chose with his heart, to go home. Paul is a very, very nice person. Paul wants to be successful and happy and wants to win prizes and he would love to do that with Manchester United.’’

Pogba was heavily linked with a move to Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid, with the iconic Frenchman even stating his admiration for the player. But any possible departure was blocked by United, and Raiola said that his player accepted that to move on from that phase.

The agent explained, “Okay there was big interest from Real Madrid and Manchester [United] didn’t let him go. We didn’t make a fuss about it and he didn’t make a fuss about it because I work in accordance with the player.’’

“You know other players can bring things to extreme but Paul doesn’t like that. So you work differently. There was an interest from Real Madrid but they [United] didn’t let him go, and I’m sorry because I think that Paul being French then [Zinedine] Zidane is an important factor in French football history.’’, he further added.

But Raiola did reaffirm his feelings that United need to have more clarity with their playing system in order to get the best out of Pogba, stating that they won’t find a suitable replacement for him if he’s to leave.

He expressed, “Is there a better midfielder [than Pogba] in the world? No! If you come to that conclusion then the other conclusion is – now if you sell Paul Pogba would you buy a better one? No! Where is he?”

“But if you create your identity then maybe you discover that Paul is ideal. If you, say, want to play with two holding midfielders then where does Paul play? In several positions.”

‘So I say, make your identity of what you want your club to be and then find the “Lego” parts for it. You need that clarity. A big club chooses the system and then chooses the players.’, he added.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remains hopeful that Pogba returns before the turn of 2019, as United have some crucial games against lower oppositions which they must win to catch up to the 4th spot.
