Paul Pogba stars for Man Utd in disappointing Burnley draw

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba produced an impressive performance against Burnley despite the frustrating 1-1 Premier League draw at Turf Moor.

The Frenchman made his first league appearance since October and was lively in the first half, bagging the opening goal in the 18th minute with an emphatic finish from the edge of the box.

Either side of his strike, United had two goals chalked off for an offside and foul respectively, but the club deserved their first-half advantage with the Clarets failing to register a single shot.

The story was quite different in the second half. The Clarets equalised within minutes of the restart through Jay Rodriguez, who managed to get behind Harry Maguire with ease.

Substitute Cristiano Ronaldo had a good headed chance to score late on, but it ended up as another frustrating night for the Red Devils, who have now dropped to fifth in the standings.

There were still some positives from the performance. Varane was unlucky to have his headed goal overruled early on. The Frenchman had another good effort saved by goalkeeper Nick Pope.

However, Pogba stood out with his showing. It was not a vintage performance, but the £49.5 million-rated star was up for the challenge, winning 11 ground and aerial duels with 77 touches.

He capped his display with an early goal which proved beneficial in United picking up a point. His distribution was not up to the mark but should improve with more minutes under his belt.

The Red Devils went into the winter break after back-to-back league victories that included a dramatic last-gasp winner against West Ham United. They have failed to sustain the momentum.

It has been a tale of two halves for the players against Middlesbrough and Burnley this month. United could drop up to seventh in the table by Thursday if the other results go against them.
