Paul Pogba provides fitness update and reason behind surgery: report

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has provided a positive update on his recovery from a surgery, which has kept him out of action since the beginning of the year.

Pogba has experienced a frustrating season due to a nagging foot problem but he appears set to make a comeback when the season resumes following the coronavirus shutdown.

Speaking to the United podcast, Pogba revealed that the full extent of the injury and said that the operation was required after he felt some discomfort on his right foot.

“So I had a foot injury, which came in the game against Southampton. It was early this season and so I carried this for a long time, training and trying to be playing with it. After I stopped, I found I had a fracture,” he told.

“I had a cast on it, a plaster-cast, so it went very well but too well. The bone got bigger and so, when I came back again, I played those two games against Watford and Newcastle, I could feel something again.

“So I had to have an operation and now here I am. I don’t feel anything and, hopefully, I’ll be back very soon. I’m already training and touching the ball.”

Pogba has been posting updates on his fitness through his Instagram account and he has even done a few skill challenges where he has looked comfortable working the ball with his right foot.

As a result, he should return to first-team training alongside his teammates when the Premier League season resumes at some point of time in the coming months.

Meanwhile, Pogba’s future with United has been a regular talking point over the past year and he has yet to commit to a new long-term deal to end the speculation.

The Frenchman’s current contract expires at the end of next season but the club have the option of a 12-month extension clause which they are likely to exercise.

Of late, he has been linked with a possible return to Juventus, who are in regular contact with his representative Mino Raiola.
