Paul Pogba insists that this Manchester United team is the ‘strongest’ he has played in, underlining his ambition to win trophies under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in 2021/22.
After blowing hot and cold for most of his inaugural four years at Old Trafford, the 28-year-old has hit the ground running from day one this season.
Pogba, who has tallied four assists in United’s opening three 2021/22 Premier League fixtures, is looking forward to helping Solskjaer’s side win their first league title since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure.
“There have always been strong Manchester United teams, but this is definitely the strongest [I’ve played in],” he told TV2.
“It is obviously in this club’s DNA to win trophies. We have a strong team that can become champions. We know how hard it is, but we will do our best to lift the trophy this season.
Pogba had been a subject of wild transfer speculation earlier in the summer as the Frenchman approaches the final six months of his contract at Old Trafford.
Despite the club’s genuine intent on handing the World Cup winner a bumper new deal, the player’s agent Mino Raiola continues to play hardball on his client’s contract extension.
However, Raiola could be powerless to deter Pogba from pledging his long-term future to the red jersey should the midfielder continue to ‘enjoy his football’ under Solskjaer.
In his latest interview, the France international threw a lifeline to United’s hopes of tying him down to a new deal.
“To be honest, I am very happy, I enjoy myself,” he added. “The Premier League is back, I play football again after a nice holiday, so it is very, very good.
“There is a huge difference from last season. Last season I had corona[virus] and no seasonal run-up, so it took a long time to get back in shape.
“This season I have trained, I have had a good start and I have been healthy. I feel much better and it makes a huge difference physically.”
Pogba has every reason to be optimistic about United’s chances of dethroning rivals Manchester City this season.
An eventful summer has seen the Red Devils land Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho from Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund, respectively.
In addition to signing their long-term targets, the three-time European champions are now on the cusp of completing a sensational return of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Solskjaer’s side jammed-full of world-class potential will get a living legend and a born leader to spearhead the team’s Premier League charge this term.
Even though they entered the season as only the fourth-favourites to establish domestic supremacy, a decent start, coupled with Ronaldo’s arrival, could tip the scales in United’s favour.
