Manchester United favourite Paul Ince has urged the Red Devils to break the bank to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund this summer.
The England international has enjoyed an impressive campaign with Dortmund this term and he has already bagged 17 goals and 19 assists from just 35 appearances.
United are deemed to have already agreed to provisional personal terms with the attacker but the transfer fee could remain a stumbling block with Dortmund likely to demand an initial £88m fee for the forward’s sale.
Speaking to Paddy Power via Goal.com, Ince heaped praise on the former Manchester City graduate and said that the Red Devils should not have second thoughts over a big-money move for Sancho.
“One player that Man Utd, and Ed Woodward, would probably change their thinking on is Jadon Sancho. He’s worth breaking the bank for. He’s still young, only 20, yet so established,” He told.
“He’s obviously incredibly talented, and although the club will be entering a bidding war if they want to buy him, if they have the chance they would be stupid not to.”
The 20-year-old is comfortable playing in either of the wide attacking positions but he has found most of his success from the right wing at Dortmund.
In the current season, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has gone with the likes of Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Daniel James and Mason Greenwood in the position but none of them have cemented a permanent spot.
Greenwood has been the standout performer with eight goals and three assists from 16 outings from the right wing but Solskjaer has been reluctant to offer him a regular run of starts.
The Norwegian has looked to protect the youngster at the early phase of his career and the teenager may need a couple of more seasons to establish himself as a consistent starter.
Even in that case, the United graduate could be handed more opportunities in his preferred number nine role and Sancho’s arrival should not hamper his development in any form.
At present, the club have yet to make a decision over a summer bid for Sancho amid the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic. They are still said to be leading the race to land his signature.
