Patrick Dorgu has returned to Manchester United for medical tests after picking up a suspected hamstring injury on Nations League duty for Denmark, according to ESPN.
The 22-year-old has primarily played as a winger for the Danish national side, but he lasted just 30 minutes against Wales yesterday after sustaining a hamstring issue.
Shortly after the game, Denmark head coach Brian Riemer confirmed that Dorgu will leave the squad, and ESPN now reveal that he has returned to United for further tests by the medical staff.
Dorgu a huge doubt for Tottenham Hotspur game
The £25 million signing had a slow start to his United career as a left wing-back, but transformed his fortunes as a left-sided winger under manager Michael Carrick in January.
Dorgu scored memorable goals against Manchester City and Arsenal, but he unfortunately picked up a hamstring injury against the latter at the Emirates Stadium.
As a result, his momentum was seized. He made his comeback towards the end of the season, scoring and assisting in the final matchday against Brighton & Hove Albion.
This season has been completely different for Dorgu. He started the campaign as a left winger and was recently called upon to play at left-back after Luke Shaw’s brief absence.
The Dane has now suffered another hamstring injury, and United will hope that the latest setback is short-term and not like the previous one, which kept him out for three months.
With Shaw’s ongoing fitness concerns, Noussair Mazraoui may have to operate as an emergency left-back in the near future if Dorgu is kept on the sidelines for a substantial time.
