Paris Saint Germain open talks with Manchester United’s Nigerian striker

Edison Cavani has left a huge void to fill in the PSG attacking third. Cavani had scored 200 goals and won seven trophies during his time at Parc des Princes. Currently, at the age of 33, he is all set to join the Portuguese side, S.L. Benfica.

The French heavyweights may have been under the notion that signing Mauro Icardi from Inter Milan would fill that void. However, despite adding the Argentine professional to their attacking arsenal, the gap still remains.

According to Foot Mercato, PSG have registered their interest in the Manchester United striker Odion Ighalo who is on an extended loan at Manchester United from Chinese club Shanghai Greenland Shenhua.

The Nigerian striker faced no problems settling in at Old Trafford. He went on score 5 goals and provide one assist in the 600 minutes of first-team game time he was given. His run at the club prompted United to extend his loan until January 2021.

Foot Mercato reports that PSG’s interests in the Nigerian are “very real” and he ticks all the boxes PSG are looking to fill. The Ligue 1 champions are in awe of his experience, quality and affordability.

In February this year, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was looking to give Ighalo a permanent deal despite him ever starting a league game for the side. When asked about his decision, he said:

“It’s a loan, but when you’re in the door and if you impress it gives you a chance. That’s exactly the same for everyone who signs if it’s permanent or it’s a loan. If you impress as a player, if you impress as a person, if you can help this group improve, then of course there’s a chance that we’ll look at extending things.”

“I think he’s probably pinching himself at times, because he’s now at his favourite club at the age of 30. Hopefully he’ll prove to you what I think he will. He’s a proven goalscorer, so he’ll do all right.”

His contract with the Chinese club is set to expire in December 2021. PSG isn’t looking to wait for that long, they’ll be looking forward to come to an agreement with Manchester United as well as Shanghai Greenland Shenhua in order to close the deal with the Nigerian international this summer.
