Some Manchester United fans were delighted with the impact made by Bruno Fernandes during the club’s 2-0 win over Manchester City in the Premier League.
United had a number of standout performers during the course of the Manchester derby but Fernandes came up with the crucial assist for Anthony Martial’s goal in the 30th minute.
The Portuguese’s quick thinking from a free-kick saw him provide an early pass to Martial, who found the back of the net and ensured that United gained control in the game.
Scott McTominay doubled United’s advantage right at the end with a special 35-yard strike but Fernandes was once again adjudged as the man of the match by the club’s supporters.
Meanwhile, there was also plenty of praise on social media for the playmaker, who has now contributed three goals and two assists from his first five Premier League appearances for the club.
Here are a few reactions on Twitter…
Can’t emphasise Bruno Fernandes’ impact on this United side enough. Largely quiet today, yet his quick thinking created the opener after ‘earning’ the free-kick which led to it. Outstanding off the ball too. Again – no idea how nobody else got him before United finally did

@B_Fernandes8 is a different class. Quality, top attitude and great work rate. Someone who takes responsibility and a team player ?

Fernandes got into a number of good attacking positions during the backend of the derby but he could not threaten the opposition goal as he received limited support from his teammates.
In a short space of time, the 25-year-old has quickly adjusted to the demands of Premier League football and his passing vision and workrate have stood out over the past five weeks.
United are currently occupying a Champions League place in fifth but they will surely be aiming to break into the top four, considering City could possibly overturn their European competition ban through a CAS appeal.
Solskjaer’s side are presently three points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea.
