Transfer Rumours

Out of favour winger not in Moyes’ plans

viWhen David Moyes officially takes charge at Old Trafford in two weeks, the file briefing him on potential transfer targets will contain only a couple of names, judging by the papers’ insistence to recycle the same rumours, week after week.

That said, United are today linked with a new player, albeit one whose name is regularly associated with the club virtually every time a transfer window opens. The Mirror reports that United have agreed a deal to sign Ezequiel Garay from Benfica for £17m.

Why United would need another defender is anyone’s guess, but the tabloid believes that with Rio Ferdinand turning 35 and Phil Jones and Chris Smalling too injury prone, David Moyes sees the 26-year-old Argentinian as the perfect addition to his back four.

Meanwhile, David Moyes could be forced to fork out more money that expected if he wants to land Robert Lewandowski, if they’re to persuade Bayern to rip up their agreement with the Polish striker, claims the Daily Star. The story – which, is worth noting, appears only in the tabloid – sounds extremely far-fetched considering that the quote reported isn’t attributed to any official sources, but simply splashed in the middle of the article.

The Star also reports that Nani is set to decide his future this weekend, but he’s likely to quit the club after six seasons, with Juventus, PSG, Benfica and his former club Sporting Lisbon reportedly interested in the Portuguese winger. The Mail has more on the story, but believes that Nani has already indicated Juventus and Monaco has his preferred destinations, after having been told that he doesn’t feature in David Moyes’ plans.

Nani’s £8m price-tag could help finance an offer for Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye, who earlier this week expressed his interest at the possibility of joining Manchester United. According to the Daily Mail, though, David Moyes will face competition from Monaco, Napoli and Roma for the French midfielder and while all three clubs struggle to match United’s level, Monaco have some extremely convincing arguments in the shape of bags of cash.

The Times believes West Ham are trying to sign Wilfried Zaha on loan ahead of next season while the Sun believes that United’s best chance to secure Ronaldo is Gareth Bale.

Less than 24 hours after claiming that Ronaldo had his heart set on extending his deal with Real Madrid, the tabloid drops another “exclusive”, according to which, should Real Madrid be successful in their attempt to lure Bale to Bernabeu in a bid believed to be worth £85m, they would then allow the Portuguese to leave for a mere £65m plus Hernandez and/or Nani.

Bringronaldohome.org must be brimming with excitement. In fact, one of their spokesperson (if they have one) might have written the article.
