Out-of-favour Manchester United defender in talks with Boca Juniors

According to the Daily Mail, Marcos Rojo has held talks with Argentine side Boca Juniors over a deal to join La Bombonera.

It has been reported that the deal hasn’t been finalised yet and the Buenos Aires based side are hoping to continue negotiations for securing the services of the 30-year-old.

The Red Devils, who will clash Manchester City in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, haven’t received a bid from the Blue and Gold.

Rojo hasn’t made any appearance for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side since October 2019 and remained on loan at Estudiantes for the second half of last season, making only one appearance for the Primera Division side due to injury.

His current contract at Old Trafford is set to expire in the summer, and although the Red Devils have the option to extend his deal by one more year, it is reportedly not likely that they will avail that option.

The experienced defender is an academy product of Estudiantes where he clocked up 54 senior appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals and creating two assists.

Following his stint at Spartak Moscow, the 30-year-old moved to Sporting Lisbon in the summer of 2012 in a deal worth £3.5 million.

His performances in the Primeira Liga attracted the attention of Premier League giants Manchester United who splashed £16m to bring the centre-back to Old Trafford.

Since arriving in Manchester, he has clocked up 122 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils, with two goals and four assists to his name.
