Former Manchester United star Wes Brown has heaped praise on Aaron Wan-Bissaka and believes the right-back is one of the best when it comes to one-on-one defensive situations.
The 22-year-old was purchased for £50m from Crystal Palace and he has since made a huge impression in the defensive point of view especially with the high number of successful tackles.
Through this, the right-back has restricted a number of elite players including Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling from posing a goalscoring threat from his end and his performances have definitely pleased Brown.
Speaking on Sky Sports, the Manchester United favourite was hugely appreciative of Wan-Bissaka’s showing and highlighted the defender’s strengths when it comes to the one-on-one duels.
“I’ve not really seen many like him and that’s the honest truth. Defensively, in one-on-ones, he’s definitely one of the best I’ve ever seen. He’s settled in so well and I don’t think there are many players who have got past him this season.” he told.
“Yes, there are times when he has made mistakes, like when he dived in to concede the penalty against Watford, but he has learned from them. Since that game, he has just gone back to his normal level.”
Wan-Bissaka has certainly provided more assurance on the right side of the defence for the Red Devils this term and there has been limited threat offered by the opposition through the same end.
While the right-back has been consistent with his defensive displays, he has not quite excelled with his crossing in the final third of the field and that is one area where he has to improve upon in the future.
Against the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City, Wan-Bissaka is perfectly suited to keep out the goalscoring threat but he surely needs to advance forward more regularly when taking on the lesser teams.
Manchester United ended a five-match winless streak against Wolves with a 1-0 win in the FA Cup third round replay on Wednesday. They are set to face fierce rivals Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League this weekend.
