Manchester United ran out comfortable 3-0 winners away to Aston Villa on Thursday night.
Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring from the penalty spot midway through the first half before Mason Greenwood scored a fine effort to double our lead in stoppage time.
Paul Pogba’s 25-yard strike shortly after half-time allowed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to ring the changes in the final half hour to keep players fresh for Monday night’s game against Southampton.
In commentary, Manchester United legend and current Sky Sports employee, Gary Neville, gave the man of the match to Mason Greenwood.
The teenager constantly terrorised the Aston Villa defence whilst he was on the pitch, cutting in from the right wing.
Speaking after the game, Ole too was full of praise for the forward, telling MUTV:
“He’s 18, so of course he’ll get better if he keeps doing the right things. He loves football; he’s a natural footballer. He was at the Academy as a little boy. His dad showed me a picture of the two of us when he was seven, when I took one of my little ones to the Academy Centres. He’s been at the club for so long. Just before I came back to the club, the youth team beat Chelsea 5-1 or 5-2 or something and he scored three I think. I watched that game on video and it’s just natural for him to score goals. Now he’s playing with better players and he’s enjoying his football. He knows what we want from him and we believe in him.”
Victory has moved us to within two points of Chelsea in third and one of Leicester City below them, with four games remaining. We host Southampton on Monday night and we’re also away to the Foxes in the final game of the 2019-20 Premier League season at the end of the month.
