Manchester United booked their place in the 2020-21 Champions League with a 2-0 win away to Leicester City on Sunday.
Bruno Fernandes converted a penalty midway through the second half before Kasper Schmeichel gifted Jesse Lingard his first goal of the season with the final kick.
Three points means we end the season in third, above Chelsea on goal difference.
It was an incredible turnaround given we had been 14 points behind the Foxes with 13 games to play and then eight behind them when the Premier League restarted in June.
During his post-match press conference, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was proud of the team’s performance over the duration of the season as he continues to build a team capable of challenging for the title.
The boss also singled out praise for long-serving Jesse Lingard, after the substitute killed the game off in the 98th minute, quoted by MUTV:
“He’s had a difficult season and a difficult year but everyone has that throughout a career, or a life, and has been through it and come through it. He’s been excellent in training – lively and bubbly – and I’m very, very happy for him to get the final goal of the Premier League season for us.”
Jesse Lingard made 22 Premier League appearances for us over the course of the 2019-20 campaign, though 13 of those were from the bench. Sunday was his first league goal involvement of the season, though he does have a goal and an assist in the Europa League and one goal in the FA Cup too.
