According to a report by ESPN, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to sell winger Dan James.
They state that Solskjaer wants to sell the Welshman to raise funds for United’s pursuit of Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.
The club hierarchy remain unconvinced of these plans.
This looks like an effort to bridge the remaining fee needed to seal the transfer for Sancho.
United have been on Sancho’s tail throughout this transfer window. But they have been bogged down by Borussia Dortmund’s rigid evaluation of £108 million for their star winger.
United are convinced that they badly need Sancho. They had an offer of around £90 million rejected a few days ago.
OGS believes that the sale of Dan James can help the club in raising the funds required to get this done.
Though, Sources close to ESPN have said that the United hierarchy believes it would send a negative message of the club’s ability to develop players if they allow a young signing to leave the club so quickly.
This marks quite a turn around in the Welsh International’s fortunes a year after his arrival.
Dan James’s first few performances were heralded as close to perfection by the manager and the media alike. Yet it has all gone downhill for the winger since then. ESPN also states that now Solskjaer and his backroom staff do not believe that James can become an established first-team player at Old Trafford.
Leeds United are interested in signing the winger.
But with the transfer window due to close in less than a week, There remains a lot to be resolved before a deal of this magnitude can go through.
United sold Alexis Sanchez previously. Andreas Pereira undergone his medical earlier today at Lazio. A potential departure of Chris Smalling is also being worked on.
