Ole Gunnar Solskjaer set to drop Man United forward for Norwich City clash: report

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly set to axe Jesse Lingard ahead of the forthcoming Premier League clash against Norwich City at Old Trafford.

The England international has struggled for form over the past 12 months, where he has failed to make a single goalscoring contribution in the Premier League for the club.

In the recent FA Cup third round tie at Wolverhampton Wanderers, Lingard was substituted at the halfway mark of the 0-0 draw and The Sun claims that both Solskjaer and assistant Mike Phelan were not impressed with the attacker’s display.

The same outlet suggests that Phelan was particularly frustrated with the forward’s inability to follow the instructions on the playing field and the performance will see him dropped for the league meeting against the Canaries on Saturday.

Solskjaer has publicly supported Lingard in a number of situations over the past year and that is quite acceptable, given the attacker has been going through a tough time on the personal front.

Still, the 27-year-old needs to perform consistently at a high level to maintain his starting spot but that has clearly not been the case with his struggles to make a gamechanging impact in the opposition box.

As per The Sun, Juan Mata is likely to get the nod for the number 10 position when Daniel Farke’s side make the trip to Old Trafford. United are winless since the beginning of the year but Solskjaer will be expecting to end the streak against the league’s bottom side.

Norwich have definitely impressed with their attacking aspect of their game since their top-flight return but they have, however, struggled to prevent the opposition from scoring and this has led to their downfall this term.
