Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says 26-year-old star will miss Newcastle United clash

Manchester United head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said that midfielder Paul Pogba is most likely to miss the forthcoming Premier League clash against Newcastle United at St James’ Park.

The France international recently returned from an ankle injury to participate against Rochdale and Arsenal in the League Cup and Premier League respectively, but he looked far from his best form.

Prior to the AZ Alkmaar game, Solskjaer acknowledged that Pogba had not completely recovered from the ankle concern and he has now indicated that the midfielder may only return following the international break.

“Paul? Probably not. There’s the international break to come and that might be the time to give them 10-14 days extra to get them ready for the Liverpool game,” he was quoted as saying by the club’s official website.

Meanwhile, Solskjaer was far from optimistic when asked about potential injury comebacks and as many as eight first-team players including Pogba could be unavailable for the forthcoming trip to Tyneside.

Luke Shaw (hamstring) and Anthony Martial (thigh) have stepped up with individual training but the Solskjaer has hinted that the game may come too soon for the pair, who have been out for more than a month.

Elsewhere, Aaron Wan-Bissaka is doubtful with a bout of tonsillitis but Phil Jones and Jesse Lingard (hamstring) are definitely ruled out alongside long-term absentees Eric Bailly and Timothy Fosu-Mensah (both knee).

Manchester United go into the Sunday’s game against Newcastle United in the search for their first away triumph since March. They are currently winless in 10 away games across all competitions since the sublime 3-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League round of 16 phase.
