Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted that there are fitness concerns over two first-team regulars ahead of tomorrow’s FA Cup third round replay against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford.
Marcus Rashford did splendidly well to score a brace in his 200th appearance for the club against Norwich City last weekend but the 22-year-old was substituted before the hour mark as he was carrying a minor knock.
Speaking to MUTV, Solskjaer has revealed that he has doubts over the forward’s involvement on Wednesday night, given the Englishman has regularly featured for the club in recent months with minimal rest.
“I don’t know. If he’s ready, and if I decide to play him, you’ll see. He’s played many games and I might have to look at it and see how we can manage him. But, we’ve got a week off very soon – in February,” he told.
Meanwhile, the United boss remained hopeful over the involvement of left-back Luke Shaw, who has missed the past two games for the club in all competitions due to an illness.
“He didn’t feel right. He’s been ill. So, for me, fine; go home. Hopefully, he’ll be ready for Wednesday,” he added.
The Red Devils have struggled to overcome the Wolves challenge in the past five meetings in all competitions and they have managed three draws and suffered a couple of defeats in the process.
As such, it can be acknowledged that Wolves have been a bogey team for United and Solskjaer will be aiming for a strong response from his players after failing to muster a single shot on target in the 0-0 draw at the Molineux.
Rashford has undoubtedly been the standout performer for the club in the attack with 19 goals in all competitions and his involvement certainly enhances the team’s prospects of progressing to the fourth round of the FA Cup.
