Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has refused to confirm whether the club are interested in a mid-season deal for midfielder Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon.
The Portuguese was highlighted as one of the top targets for the Red Devils last summer but the club were reluctant to make a bid after being put off by the asking price set by Sporting.
Despite this, the 25-year-old has been regularly linked with a move to Old Trafford and when asked about the player on Saturday, Solskjaer was reluctant to speak on an individual, who is contracted to another team.
“Bruno Fernandes? I can’t talk about individuals that play for other clubs, but I’ve got to say I do have the backing. We do have the backing to do something if the right thing comes up in this window,” he told in a press conference, via Metro.
The Red Devils bagged their first win of the New Year with a 4-0 triumph over the Canaries at Old Trafford but the scoreline could have been bigger with Brandon Williams among those squandering clear-cut chances.
The victory has kept United within five points off Chelsea in the pursuit of the final Champions League spot but they have a testing challenge on their hands next weekend with a league trip to fierce rivals Liverpool.
Prior to that, the Red Devils have a third round FA Cup replay against Wolverhampton Wanderers at home and Solskjaer will be hoping that his side can end a five-match winless run against the west Midlands outfit.
