Ole Gunnar Solskjaer provides injury update on Harry Maguire ahead of Man City clash

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided an injury update on Harry Maguire ahead of the weekend’s derby against Manchester City in the Premier League.

The England international has been a constant figure in the United defence in all competitions this season, but he was unavailable for the FA Cup fifth round tie against Derby County clash after rolling his ankle in training.

In his absence, Eric Bailly accompanied Victor Lindelof at the heart of the defence on Thursday night and the duo were able to keep a clean sheet as United registered a comfortable 3-0 win at Pride Park.

Speaking after the game, Solskjaer revealed that Maguire was not expected to be rested for the Cup tie but the decision was enforced after the centre-back sustained a minor ankle concern.

The Norwegian added that he is optimistic about the defender’s availability for the Manchester derby at Old Trafford on Sunday evening.

“He rolled over on his ankle, I wasn’t going to rest him today but it’s one of those things that happens in training and we had a few out today but I think he’ll be all right, he’ll be fine,” he told.

Maguire has been hugely impressive with his central defensive displays in recent months and he made as many as 15 clearances during a dominant league performance against Everton last weekend.

As such, United definitely require his services for the forthcoming derby against Pep Guardiola’s side and it won’t come as a surprise, if Solskjaer takes the risk of playing the centre-back, even if he is not 100% fit.
