Ole Gunnar Solskjaer provides fresh injury update on Marcus Rashford after Wolves clash

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that Marcus Rashford has suffered a fresh concern during the club’s 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup third round replay on Wednesday.

Prior to the game, Solskjaer hinted that Rashford was struggling with his fitness and it was no surprise that the England international started on the bench. He was still introduced after the hour mark with the scores still level at 0-0 and played his part in the 67th minute goal scored by Juan Mata.

Shortly after, the 22-year-old was subject to a challenge from Matt Doherty which saw him in discomfort, and that eventually contributed towards his substitution in the 80th minute as he appeared to be struggling with an evident back problem.

Speaking after the game, Solskjaer revealed that the United graduate has been struggling with a back issue of late but the setback against Wolves has nothing to do with the same.

He added that the forward has picked up a knock on his knee and back, and said that the club will do their best to get him fit for the Premier League clash at fierce rivals Liverpool this weekend.

“He’s had trouble with the back lately but that is a different matter. Now we have got a different one. I don’t think it is related but he had to come off [knock on his knee and back],” he was quoted as saying by the club’s official website.

“I didn’t want to play him, but we needed the win. It has backfired. I can say we’ll do everything we can to get him fit. He’s been available and fit this season. He’s a quick healer. He’s struggled lately but more when he’s tired.”

United had another testing game against Wolverhampton Wanderers but Mata made the game-changing impact as he scored on the counter-attack after beating the offside trap set by the opposition defence.

The victory ended a five-match winless run against Wolves across all competitions. Solskjaer’s side could come against either Watford or Tranmere Rovers in the FA Cup fourth round in 10 days’ time.
