Ole Gunnar Solskjaer predicts injury boost for key player ahead of Aston Villa clash

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided a positive update on the fitness of Scott McTominay and he is hopeful that the midfielder will make his comeback from an ankle injury against Aston Villa on Sunday.

The Scotland international suffered the injury concern during the final stages of the 3-1 league win over Brighton & Hove Albion before the international break and he has subsequently missed the matches against Sheffield United and Astana.

Earlier this month, Solskjaer had predicted that McTominay could return to action against either Tottenham Hotspur or Manchester City next month but the Norwegian has now indicated that the midfielder could make his comeback against Dean Smith’s side.

“We hope Scotty will be back as soon as possible, but he’s also been back home and I’ve not seen him. Maybe [he will be fit to face] Spurs but hopefully for Sunday,” he was quoted as saying by the club’s official website.

Meanwhile, Solskjaer also provided an update on the recovery of Pogba, who recently reported to the Carrington base after his rehabilitation. The Frenchman has yet to report to training alongside his teammates and Solskjaer has accepted that the midfielder is definitely ruled out for the Villains clash.

“Paul is stepping up his recovery and let’s see how soon he’ll be match fit and available. We want him back as soon as possible. Sunday? No. I can’t say now as I’ve not been home and seen him. Let’s see where he’s at when he comes back and he starts training with us,” he added.

James Garner and Dylan Levitt were the midfield pairing during the midweek Europa League clash at Astana and they will certainly be replaced for the weekend’s Premier League game, which remains a must-win to keep up in the top-four race.

Fred and Andreas Pereira started in the centre of the park during the last league match at Sheffield United and the duo could play alongside each other once more, should Solskjaer opt to place McTominay on the bench after his recent injury comeback.
