Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has praised the perfomance of right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka during the club’s 2-1 Premier League over Manchester City away from home.
The Red Devils produced a superb attacking display in the opening half against the Cityzens and goals from Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial gave them a deserved 2-0 lead at the interval.
In the second period, the focus was more on preserving the advantage against their cross-town rivals and Wan-Bissaka played a key role as he restricted the threat from the likes of Sterling and De Bruyne.
Sterling, in particular, had a tough time as he barely created anything from Bissaka’s end, barring one instance during the early phase of the Manchester derby.
Wan-Bissaka ended the game with the most tackles (5) than any other player on the field while he also managed 7 clearances and 2 interceptions.
As such, it was no surprise that he was adjudged the man of the match by the fans and Solskjaer has expressed his delight over the young defender’s display.
“Aaron, he’s playing against Sterling out there, Mahrez out there, De Bruyne out there and they just couldn’t get past him,” he told MUTV.
With the result, United have ensured that they have remained unbeaten against each of the clubs in the current top-four but they are currently within five points off fourth-placed Chelsea.
Still, there is room for improvement against the mid-table teams and United need to find a solution against sides, who are prepared to sit back and defend thus negating the counter-attacking option.
