Ole Gunnar Solskjaer pleads Ed Woodward to sign new players

Liverpool and Manchester City have dominated the Premier League in recent years. It is not a secret that Manchester United need to ramp up their squad to compete them. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has done a fantastic job with shrewd and controlled signings and offloading fringe players at the same time.

But, at the same time, Liverpool and Manchester City grow stringer. United need to speed up and Solskjaer feels the same.

Solskjaer said: “We still have a way to go to get to the level of the teams at the top of the Premier League. They are too far ahead of us.” He wants the club to have a busy time at the transfer market this season.

While the side is on a dream run since January, they still ended their Premier League campaign 15 points behind their city rivals Manchester City and 33 points behind the newly crowned champions, Liverpool.

The Reds haven’t won the league since 2013, with their last piece of silverware now dating back to 2017.

Ahead of the semi-final clash against Sevilla, Solskjaer admitted that the club has to put in a tremendous amount of work in order to challenge their rivals for the title next season.

He added, “We are still growing, getting better of course, but we are not the finished article. Nowhere near.

We want to go as far as we possibly can in this tournament. I think we all realise we are in a special moment in history.

“But that will stretch all the squads and it means you need a big squad for next season.

“You need to plan ahead. It is not just about 11, 12, or 13 players. You have to have 19, 20, 21 or 22 that you really rely on because if you play every three days for a full year it’s going to be mentally and physically difficult.

We are always working towards having a competitive squad and the challenge for us now is to take the next step.

“That means winning trophies and keep trying to close the gap to the top two teams.

“And we have also got to make sure that the teams who finished below us in the table stay behind us.”

The manager’s main request to the club was to loosen their purse strings a bit and spend money on signing some quality players this summer.

Get to work Ed!
