Ole Gunnar Solskjaer heaps praise on reborn David de Gea

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has heaped praise on David de Gea following the goalkeeper’s impressive start to the season (via Fabrizio Romano).

De Gea has been one of the most influential figures at Old Trafford over the past decade

He has made over 400 Premier League appearances en route to becoming the first player in the club’s history to claim the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award three times in a row.

However, the Spaniard slipped down the pecking order last season and even surrendered his spot between the sticks to the up-and-coming Dean Henderson.

Additionally, the 30-year-old’s dip in form saw Athletic Bilbao’s Unai Simon take his place in Spain’s starting XI at the European Championships, throwing further doubt on his ability to revive his career.

Although Solskjaer initially decided to go with Henderson as United’s first-choice goalkeeper, the Englishman’s injury has forced de Gea’s reintegration early in the season.

And the ex-Atletico Madrid shot-stopper has not ceased to amaze.

De Gea has gone from strength to strength this season, with his heroic save to deny Mark Noble’s stoppage-time spot-kick giving United all three points at West Ham last weekend.

It is safe to say that the highly-rated keeper is on course of regaining his best form, which should hand United’s hopes of landing their first Premier League title since 2012/13 a massive boost.
