Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer faces a fresh dilemma with Alexis Sanchez refusing to take a pay-cut in order to leave the club on a permanent basis during the summer.
The Chilean is currently on a season-long loan at Inter Milan where he has experienced a frustrating season, hampered by an ankle injury.
According to Evening Standard, the 31-year-old has the ambition of extending his stay with the Nerazzurri but he is likely to return to Old Trafford after an injury-hit campaign.
The same publication cites that United would prefer to offload him on a permanent basis during the next transfer window but his reluctance to take a pay-cut will scupper their plans of doing so.
Sanchez has failed to live up to the expectations since his move from Arsenal in January 2018 and he has come for much criticism, particularly with his massive £450,000-a-week wages.
Ideally, United would prefer to cash in on his services to cut their losses but finding a buyer for his current salary seems improbable, considering he has been on the decline since joining the club.
The former Barcelona man has more than two years remaining on his current contract with the club and it is suggested that United could be compelled to accept another loan deal for the Chilean next term.
Still, United could find themselves in a losing situation, given the fee for his temporary exit may not necessarily cover for the portion of the wages, which they would need to compensate during his stay at that club.
Solskjaer’s side have the other option of releasing Sanchez on a free by buying out his contract but that is unlikely to happen due to the current global crisis and a significant part of the summer budget being used up.
