Ole Gunnar Solskjaer drops fresh update on Paul Pogba and Harry Maguire

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has assured that midfielder Paul Pogba will be staying put with the Red Devils beyond this summer’s transfer window.

The 26-year-old midfielder missed the recent friendly with AC Milan with a minor back pain, but Solskjaer has confirmed that the Frenchman will return to the mix for the Premier League opener against Chelsea.

“Yeah, no doubts at all [on Pogba stay]. He’ll probably be back early on next week training, yeah, it’s not an injury, it’s just some pain, he’s not injured but I wasn’t going to risk anything this weekend. He should be okay for Chelsea,” he told

Meanwhile, Solskjaer said that he is hopeful of landing the signature of Harry Maguire from Leicester City in the near future, and the England international will be assessed to find out whether he can feature in the curtain raiser against Frank Lampard’s side.

“Hopefully, the last little details will be in place and we can announce something very soon. Let’s get the details over the line but he’s played a few games over the summer so we’ll just have to assess him, if and when [in terms of potentially being available for the Chelsea match],” he added.

United ended their pre-season campaign with a penalty shoot-out win over AC Milan at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff after the scores were level at 2-2 following the completion of normal time.

As such, they were able to experience the perfect pre-season with not a single defeat, but nothing of this will matter when the real campaign starts against Chelsea at Old Trafford on August 11.

Meanwhile, with just five days remaining in the summer transfer window, the club have been fancied to make a few more signings with the likes of Paulo Dybala and Mario Mandzukic on their radar.

Dybala, however, has yet to give the green light to move to Old Trafford and it has been reported that United may propose to sign Mandzukic as part of the deal allowing Romelu Lukaku to join Juventus this summer.
