Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided a massive hint that Odion Ighalo could sign for the club on a permanent basis from Shanghai Shenhua during the summer transfer window.
The 30-year-old has been a huge hit for the Red Devils in the Cup competitions and he recently took his tally to four goals and an assist from just three starts for the club.
Speaking after United’s 5-0 win over LASK, Solskjaer heaped praise on the former Watford man, who has been consistent with his goalscoring when he has been handed the opportunity from the starting lineup.
The Norwegian continued to talk about the striker’s qualities and suggested that the club would require those traits for next season, he told via Standard Sport: “Odion has come in really well and he will improve and get better.
“But he has qualities we saw in him and needed and we need those qualities for next season. He’s a great link player, but maybe the best thing about him is his personality. He’s got the whole lot really.”
Ighalo has made a good impression since his loan move from Shenhua in January and his performances definitely deserve to be rewarded with a permanent deal in the summer.
Of course, Ighalo may not be able to perform at the same level in the long run, judging by his age, and United should consider offering him a two-year contract at the most, with an option for another 12 months.
United picked up a 5-0 victory over Linzer ASK on the road during the first leg of the Europa League round of 16 on Thursday night. Ighalo was the standout performer with a goal and an assist.
Solskjaer’s side are now unbeaten in 11 games in all competitions.
