Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed the injury comeback of Anthony Martial ahead of Saturday’s cross-town derby against Manchester City in the Premier League.
The Frenchman suffered a muscular problem in the lead-up to the midweek league clash against Tottenham Hotspur and that saw Mason Greenwood handed with the job of leading the line.
Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s derby, Solskjaer has said that Martial will ‘definitely’ make his comeback from the minor setback but he presented doubts regarding the Frenchman’s involvement from the starting XI.
“We hope to have Anthony, definitely, for part of the game. I am not sure he is able to start,” he was quoted as saying by the club’s official website.
Meanwhile, Solskjaer was also asked for an update on Paul Pogba’s fitness after his ankle injury and in his response, the Norwegian said that the Frenchman could possibly return to action before the turn of the year.
“Paul probably won’t be available, no. We expect him back as soon as possible, as quickly as possible. He’s out on the grass training. I said [he’ll be back] in 2019, so hopefully we’ll see him before the new year, definitely,” he added.
United have excelled against the elite teams in the Premier League this season and they have yet to suffer a defeat in four matches against the so-called top-six.
Against Spurs, the Red Devils were impressive with an attacking brand of football through which they dominated the proceedings and hopefully, more of the same is visible at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
Solskjaer’s side still have plenty of ground to cover with respect to the Champions League qualification spots and they are currently eight points behind fourth-placed Chelsea in the standings.
