Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that midfielder Paul Pogba remains a major injury doubt ahead of the Premier League clash against Arsenal on Monday night.
The Frenchman was sidelined with ankle injury at the beginning of the month and he only made his comeback during the midweek League Cup tie against Rochdale where United needed a penalty shoot-out to progress.
Pogba’s performance was far from impressive as he struggled to dominant the proceedings against the League One side and Solskjaer has now revealed that the 26-year-old has a swelling on the same ankle.
“Paul was really struggling with his ankle as it was really swollen, so let’s see how that repairs. He got 90 minutes but was sore towards the end again,” he was quoted as saying on the club’s official website.
Scott McTominay has been one of the undisputed midfield choices under Solskjaer but he may have to contend with playing without Pogba unless the Frenchman manages a swift recovery in the coming days.
Otherwise, Nemanja Matic appears the likelier choice to partner the Scotland international after he was completely rested during the midweek Cup tie against Rochdale at Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, there has been no improvement on the fitness of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford, who are struggling with thigh and groin problems respectively and the front duo are expected to miss the Gunners clash.
The same goes for Luke Shaw, Phil Jones, Diogo Dalot and Angel Gomes, who are unavailable for the Monday night clash. Elsewhere, Eric Bailly and Timothy Fosu-Mensah are long-term injury absentees and no suitable return dates have been mentioned for the defensive pair.
